Frequently Asked Questions

How does Pippen keep patient data safe?

Pippen was built with patient privacy at its core, ensuring the physical, technical, and administrative safeguards required for PHIPA compliance. Privacy features include:

  • Data hosted on private, secure servers all within Canada
  • Data encrypted at rest as well as in transit
  • Deletion of all audio
  • Redaction of personal identifying information before any transcripts are processed
  • Minimal information required to start an encounter

Can I enter patient data directly into Pippen?

Yes! Pippen gives you the power, flexibility and functionality of OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo without worrying about compromising privacy and security.

How do I get Pippen?

We are gradually onboarding users who sign up for our waitlist. Users on our waitlist will be the first to know when Pippen launches.

Do I have to pay for Pippen?

Pippen will be offered for free with a daily usage threshold. Pippen will also be offered on a subscription basis, which provides physicians with the flexibility to use Pippen throughout their daily workflows.

Does Pippen only help with scribing?

Pippen helps family physicians with more than just scribing the medical encounter. Think of Pippen's platform as a secure playground for using AI in your practice - ask Pippen to suggest billing codes, write referral letters, suggest treatment options, and more.

What dataset is Pippen trained on?

Pippen is developed using OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo and other large language models (LLMs). It has been trained up to April 2023 on a large dataset of text from the Internet as a whole, medical textbooks and Wikipedia. Pippen is further fine-tuning the model using proprietary medical datasets.

What if Pippen hallucinates?

Pippen's output should always be reviewed by a physician. It is not meant to provide final medical advice to patients or to replace human judgment. It functions as a tool that helps physicians work more efficiently.

Has Pippen been tested for bias?

The teams at OpenAI and Pippen are continuously striving to identify and reduce bias in their products. Although AI isn't expected to be perfect, emerging research suggests that GPT-4 is able to support clinicians in making diagnosis decisions without introducing significant unconscious racial and ethnic biases.

Is Pippen aiming to give advice directly to patients?

No. Pippen is strictly available for medical professionals today. It is a tool to help physicians work more efficiently. However, physicians can use Pippen to help turn complex medical information into patient-facing communications.
