The CMPA has provided guidelines on how to obtain consent from patients. Before beginning the encounter, Doctors should do their best to provide a clear explanation of:
- Pippen’s purpose: Pippen’s intended purpose to reduce paperwork for doctors.
- How it works: Pippen uses voice-to-text software and other algorithms to help doctors reduce their paperwork.
- Potential uses of any recorded data: Audio files are auto-deleted and transcripts are used by the software to help doctors summarize their notes.
Please feel free to consult your own legal team on how best to obtain consent from patients. Along with a discussion on the software purpose and function, some clinics have opted to include signage in their clinics to increase awareness of the use of AI by their doctor.
