Custom templates are one of the fastest ways to save time on Pippen. Instead of fixing every note after it’s created, you can adjust the template once and let Pippen do it your way every time.
You might want your notes to be shorter, use your usual abbreviations, or follow a slightly different format. Editing a template helps you match your own style so you spend less time editing later.
This guide walks you through how to edit a template and optimize it for your workflow.
Step 1: Open and Duplicate the Template
Go to “My Templates” and select the template you want to edit.
When you click “Edit Template,” Pippen will prompt you to duplicate it. This ensures the original stays unchanged while you create your own version. Rename your copy clearly so it’s easy to find later.

Step 2: Edit the Instructions
All customization happens in the “Modify Instructions” section.

This is where you control how Pippen generates notes—structure, tone, formatting, and level of detail. You can also reference the example output to understand how the current template behaves before making changes.
Step 3: Make Your Changes
You can keep this simple.
If you want shorter notes, tell Pippen to be more concise.
If you like abbreviations, ask it to use them when appropriate.
If you prefer shorter section names, you can change them (like Subjective → S, Objective → O/E, Assessment & Plan → A/P).
Even formatting matters—if you bold something in the instructions, it will show up bold in your final note.

Step 4: Save and Set as Default
Once you’re done, save your template and pin it as your default.

This means Pippen will automatically use your version going forward.
Step 5: Test It
To make customizing all of your notes easier, we’ve also introduced one-click toggles (e.g., adding consent statements) inside ‘Global Preferences.’* This makes it easier for you to customize your notes- without having to type out instructions.
Run a quick test using audio or a transcript.
Check that your changes worked:
- Are the notes shorter?
- Are the headings updated?
- Are abbreviations used properly?
Most importantly, make sure nothing important is missing.
